At its May 10 meeting, the Board of Education honored Craig Simmons for his years of service to the Chatham Central School District. Mr. Simmons resigned from the Board in December, 2021 due to his being elected to the supervisor position for the town of Ghent. He served nearly a decade on the Board, being sworn in on May 22, 2013 and serving as the Board’s president for the 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2020-21 school years. Among other things, he volunteered for years with Chatham Middle School’s mentor program, an intervention model that pairs young people in need of someone they can trust and look up to with adults from their community. He also worked closely with Chatham High School’s robotics program in its formative years as a volunteer community mentor and technical advisor. Simmons is a lifelong resident of the Chatham CSD community,  a Chatham graduate, and parent of three Chatham graduates.
