Planning for Chatham Central School District's Future

The Chatham Central School District (CCSD) is developing a comprehensive, long-term strategic plan focused on facilities, enrollment management, and financial sustainability. The District is facing significant, sustained challenges due to a decreasing student enrollment trend coupled with increasing operational and building maintenance costs, placing substantial pressure on the District's budget and resources. The primary objective of this engagement is to develop a data-driven, actionable, and community-supported plan for the optimal configuration and utilization of District facilities to ensure the delivery of high-quality education in a fiscally responsible manner for the next 10-15 years.

In May, 2026, the Board of Education hired consultant firm Zeal Education Group to work with the District and our community to evaluate how our declining student enrollment will impact the District’s long-term operational needs, use of our facilities, and costs. This is the beginning of a multi-year conversation and no immediate decisions have been made.
