Teachers covered in pies

The MED PTA organized a 3-week long loose change collection. They set up four empty five-gallon water jugs in the school’s lobby - each with a different color representing MED’s  Purple, Red, Green, and Blue houses. The houses were then challenged to see which could fill the jug with the most change. The winners got to throw pies at MED faculty members! Along with creating a friendly house challenge, the competition raised money to supplement funds for the PTA and served as an opportunity to build team excitement and communication throughout the building.

“This challenge created an immense amount of excitement as the jugs filled each day,” remarked PTA president MED secretary Jessica Williams. “While students walked by the jugs, the chatter of, ‘I think our house is going to win!’ was an everyday occurrence.”

Many children brought in their personal piggy banks (with parental permission of course!) to contribute. Students would race into school with their baggies of change with the biggest smile putting the $$ into their house jug.

Over the course of the event, the PTA raised over $1,200 that will go to support programs here at MED!! The house that raised the most money was Purple House. All 110 students and staff of team purple were given a whipped-cream pie with which to pie one of 10 volunteer staff members in the face!! As an additional surprise, an additional two house members from the other three houses were chosen at random to throw pies too.

Putting up a brave face as our pie recipients were MED staff members Kristen Reno, Brett Fortran, Elaine Van Alstyne, Chelsea Phillips, John Roloson, Courtney Rudat, Suzanne Maraglio, Jackie Mulica, Connie Reichardt, and Stephanie Ronca!
