5th grade scientists are busy at work investigating what plants need to live and grow. In this lab, students soaked aquatic plants in bromothymol blue indicator solution mixed with carbon dioxide. They found evidence that plants take in carbon dioxide after making observations that the plants took on a darker green hue, and the solution went from yellow to a green/blue hue.
