four students siting in chairs with hands held up over their heads

After several years, we were excited to bring back Battle of the Belts as part of CHS's Arbor Day!

Sponsored by CHS SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), Battle of the Belts is a friendly and fun competition designed to raise awareness about the importance of buckling up as either a driver or passenger in a vehicle.

During the race, each member of a four-person team is seated in a car.  When signaled, each person buckles their seatbelt and then raises their hands to indicate they are buckled up.  An official verifies this and then the members unbuckle and run to the next position in the car. The race is completed when all four team members have rotated through the four seated positions in the vehicle.

This year, the rain forced the Battle inside.  Thanks to some quick thinking on the part of Mr. Caldwell, our CHS technology teacher, the competition was able to continue in the gym, even without actual vehicles. He crafted "car seats' from chairs, bungee cords and scrap wood, simulating the placements of each seat position in a real car.

Prizes included SADD-sponsored gift cards to Gnome Pizzeria, Fiesta Cafe, and Dairy Queen, and were awarded to the following:

four boys wearing sleeveless tees flexing their triceps
Team with the Fastest Time: "Waist Management" - Bronson Haner, Owen WIlber, Maddox Dallas-Wright, Brody Casivant

Team with the Best Uniform: "The Seat Belters" - Tyler Gebel, Ellery Pierce , Karina Lezama, Phila Visconti
