School safety is always our number one priority in Chatham.  This is why on Wednesday, May 28th we will practice a district-wide relocation drill.  A relocation drill would be utilized in an emergency situation in which students, faculty and staff would need to leave a specific school building and relocate to another location within walking distance.  When a relocation is utilized the intent would be that we would stay at our relocation drill for a short period and then return to the school building to dismiss or our buses would pick our students up from the relocation site and bring our children home.  This is different from our reunification site. Our reunification sites would be further away from Chatham at a neighboring school district and students' parents would pick their child directly from this space.

Again our relocation practice drill will take place on Wednesday, May 28th at 8:30am.  Students will walk to the following relocation site by building with their teachers and staff to the following locations:

  • Middle School - St. James Church

  • Elementary School - Fairgrounds - Inside the main building

  • High School - Fairgrounds - Grandstand

This emergency drill will take around 30-40 minutes and all students should be back to their buildings by around 9:15 am.  When at the site your child’s building principal will explain the drill and give some instructions.  Please make sure your child gets to school on time on Wednesday so that they don’t miss this important practice drill.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact the superintendent or your child’s building principal.
