Students in Emily Desmarais and Susan Lutz's 9th Grade English Concepts class completed a project demonstrating their understanding of Jason Reynolds' book Long Way Down. The story, set almost entirely in an elevator, follows a character grappling with challenges after his brother's death. Students analyzed the literary elements the author used to convey the book's central themes. For the final project of the unit, groups collaborated to build an elevator model, which now hangs in the classroom, visually representing the story's deeper meaning and use of literary devices.
