A chaotic ballet of rolling objects, falling weights, and spinning mechanisms put Chatham High School Principles of Engineering students’ creativity and engineering skills to the test! CHS’ technology teacher, Mr. Caldwell, tasked the students with building Rube Goldberg machines to perform a simple task in a fun and overly complicated way. Teams were required to incorporate and correctly execute at least two simple machines (lever, pulley, inclined plane, screw, wedge, or wheel and axle) into their systems. They earned points for both the presence of these devices and their correct function within the overall system.
