Chatham Middle School held its annual National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI) training for student leaders on September 30 and October 1, our 20th year having this program at CMS!
Hosted by the CMS counseling department and led by guest NCBI trainers Ira Ira Baumgarten and Tawana Davis from Russell Sage College, the training focused on students understanding the impact of self-awareness, personal identities, and stereotypes. It also provided effective ways for students to become an ally to others and take a leadership role in creating a more caring environment in their school. Later this year, these newly trained NCBI leaders will present positive relationship-building workshops that reduce prejudice, conflict, and bullying by celebrating students' similarities and differences and by helping their peers better understand and appreciate one another.
NCBI is a nonprofit leadership training organization that works to eliminate conflict and prejudice in the workplace, schools, and communities the world over.
