This year, MED first grade teacher Mrs. Van Note is the facilitator of a CCSD faculty book group studying the book Building Thinking Classrooms by Peter Liljedahl. Recently, she took what she has been learning and tried it in her class. Pictured here are students in random groups of two, working out a math task on vertical non-permanent surfaces - all practices that Peter has proven get kids to think about math instead of mimicking a teacher. It worked! The kids were engaged, talking about math, and productively challenged, with one even saying “wait, class is over? This was fun!”
