student wave from behind mountain of food.

When faculty members at MED suggested the school’s next HOUSE challenge be a collection of food and other necessities for those in need, nobody could predict what was headed their way. As planned, MED’s Souper-Bowl House Challenge kicked off January 23 and pitted the school’s Blue, Green, Purple, and Red HOUSES against one another in a competition to see who could collect the most items for the Chatham Area Silent Food Pantry. To give the competition a little flavor, the winning HOUSE would receive a pizza party. However, as the donations poured in it soon became apparent that this collection was going to amount to more than just a hill of beans. By the time the collection wrapped up February 9, MED’s students, staff, and families had piled up a mountain of Everest proportions - 3,500 items! With such a bounty, MED will be able to make a sizable donation to not just the Chatham Area Silent Food Pantry, but also the Ghent and North Chatham food pantries as well!

"It was thrilling to see how our school family embraced this friendly HOUSE challenge of raising needed items for our local food pantries, as well as the generosity shown by our families to help our community," said MED’s principal, Kristen Reno.

Officially, Red HOUSE came out on top to clinch the coveted pizza party with their tally of 1,115 items collected. But let’s face it, with a school-wide turnout like this, every HOUSE deserved a slice of the pie! So along with Red HOUSE, Purple, Green and Blue got a pizza party too!
