New this school year, the MED PTA organized a BooHoo Yahoo Breakfast for the start of the school year. This event allowed our pre-k and kindergarten parents a chance to have a presence in their child’s classroom on their first day of school without actually being in the classroom with them, and also gave parents an opportunity to visit campus and feel connected as they said their goodbyes. Whether they cried or celebrated their child entering school, parents also had the opportunity to chat with other parents and form a common bond while enjoying breakfast together in the courtyard.
During the breakfast, parents were given an opportunity to snap a photo and write a message to their child on a Post-it note. For families who could not attend, the PTA gave them the opportunity to send in a photo in advance. The PTA then printed each picture and, along with its corresponding note, hand-delivered it to the child's teacher, who read the note to the child during the school day!
This event was a big success and helped replace the sadness many families feel when sending their little ones off to school with happiness for many.
"The feedback was impressive and the PTA hopes to continue this event for years to come," remarked MED PTA president Jessica Williams.
