As part of Arbor Day at CMS, seventh and eighth graders participated in a dynamic, full-day event that beautifully combined physical activity with essential wellness education. Throughout the day, students were actively involved in hands-on workshops designed to support both body and mind. They learned how to fuel their bodies by crafting healthy snacks like avocado toast, and they challenged themselves physically with yoga and CrossFit. Beyond the physical exercise, community presenters tackled tough, highly relevant topics, educating students on the hidden dangers of energy drinks and the complex impact that social media can have on body image. An art therapist taught the students how to use bilateral movements to actively soothe the mind and cultivate physical calmness. Additionally, the staff from Columbia Pathways to Recovery shared powerful personal stories of resilience and overcoming obstacles. We were also especially thrilled to welcome back one of our own former graduates, Dr. Megan Zwingleberg Cardoso, as one of our presenters.
