WWII tanker coverall and helmet

Social studies students at CHS got to explore a large display of historical military equipment representing  the Civil War up through the 21st century, thanks to several members of our community. School Resource Deputy Patrick McMahon brought in pieces from his WWI and WWI collections, including US, British, German, and Japanese uniforms, equipment and tank shells. Veteran Owen Calhoun, who spent 20 years in the Army as both an enlisted man and officer, brought in equipment from his career. He trained for infantry, civil affairs, psychological warfare, military police, and explosive ordnance disposal specialties. His collection included training documents, uniforms, personal equipment, and helmets. He also brought in a selection of US uniforms from the Vietnam War. The students also got to see Civil War uniforms provided by reenactor Tom Grott, who was unable to attend. His uniforms are hand-made reproductions that he cut and sewed himself, along with a few original personal equipment items from the 1860s.
