teacher addressing students

The fifth grade celebrated their moving on to Chatham Middle School with a D.A.R.E. Graduation and Moving Up Ceremony for family and friends, held June 17 in the MED gym.

The D.A.R.E. graduation portion included remarks from Columbia County Sheriff's Deputy Wendy Guntert, who is Chatham’s D.A.R.E. teacher, and the presentation of D.A.R.E. awards. The D.A.R.E. program teaches students skills to make safe and responsible choices in all aspects of their lives, including substance use, bullying, peer pressure, stress, and communication skills.

Next, principal MED Kristen Reno congratulated the students on their completion of elementary school and each student was called to the front of the room to receive the congratulations of their teachers and administrators and their moving up certificates. The ceremony also included slide shows highlighting the students’ time at MED, student remarks, and a welcome from CMS principal Mike Burns to our soon-to-be 6th graders.
