 AP Biology students had fun experience while learning about cellular communication via signal transduction pathways. In two different labs, the students were given a substance that temporarily altered their abilities to taste certain things. In one lab, their sweet receptors were blocked and in the presence of an acid, sour things tasted sweet. In the other lab, their sweet receptors were blocked so bitter and salty flavors were enhanced while anything sweet had no flavor at all!
