The Chatham Central School District is committed to growth for all students and recognizes the rights and responsibilities of parents in the education of their children. Homeschooling is a viable educational choice, subject to laws and regulations of New York State.

Chatham residents who wish to homeschool must submit a letter of intent to homeschool, an Individual Home Instruction Plan (IHIP), annual evaluations and quarterly reports. The links below provide models of these forms. The District also asks that families fill out a Homeschool Registration Form, also available below.

All forms should be submitted to:
MED Elementary Assistant Principal
Homeschool Coordinator
Chatham Central Schools
50 Woodbridge Avenue
Chatham, NY 12037

Homeschooling parents or students may request a determination of substantial equivalency between the homeschool and public high school program for the purpose of documenting substantial equivalency in the college application process. View Chatham’s procedures in response to requests for substantial equivalency determination.

The links below may help families who are interested in homeschooling learn about requirements and procedures. Additional questions may be addressed to Brett Fortran, Homeschool Coordinator at 518-392-2255, ext. 3036.
