New NYS Guidance on Outdoor Mask Wearing

(June 8, 2021)

Dear Chatham CSD Families,

Last evening, the NYS Department of Health issued revised guidance which no longer requires masks to be worn outside on school grounds. Effective immediately, Chatham Central School District will adopt this change and mask use outdoors is now optional. This applies to any outdoor activities or functions, including recess, physical education, and interscholastic sports. Schools are still required to follow appropriate physical distancing protocols outdoors.

The updated guidance did not include any changes to indoor safety protocols. Masks are required to be worn in our buildings and on buses by all students, staff, and visitors, along with other COVID-19 mitigation requirements including physical distancing, which will remain in place for the remainder of the school year. We will communicate any potential changes to protocols impacting summer school and the start of school this fall when that guidance is made available by the state.

Sincerely,

Sal DeAngelo,
Superintendent of Schools
