NYDOH Guidelines Require Masks on School Campuses

Dear Chatham CSD Families,

With the CDC recently updating their COVID-19 guidelines and NYS easing mask and social distancing requirements for vaccinated individuals, I wanted to take a quick moment to provide some clarification, as we have been getting a lot of questions from families about how this affects our schools. In short, these changes do not apply to prek-12 schools in NYS. Even for vaccinated individuals, the state requires mask wearing and social distancing in the school setting.

Chatham CSD continues to follow the COVID-19 safety measures that we have had in place throughout this school year. All students, staff and visitors to our campus must continue to wear masks and socially distance, both indoors and outdoors while on school grounds, regardless of their vaccination status. This applies to school busses as well.

Again, I want to thank you for your attention to this matter. Your continued cooperation and support has allowed us to keep our schools open, safe and inviting places to learn.

In the coming weeks and months, we will be looking for additional guidance from state and local health authorities as to what safety measures will remain in place for next school year.

Sincerely,

Sal DeAngelo
Superintendent
