Dear Chatham High School Students, Parents and Guardians,
As had been mentioned in a previous message, the United States Department of Education (USDE) has denied New York State’s testing waiver request. In order to meet federal requirements but also suppress some of the challenges schools, parents and students have faced over the past 15 months, New York state has cancelled all but four Regents exams.
The Regents exams that will be held according to the following schedule:
- English Language Arts – June 17th 8:00am
- Living Environment – June 22nd 8:00am
- Algebra I – June 23rd 8:00am
- Earth Science – June 24th 8:00am
For planning purposes, we are asking that students sign up for Regents exams that they would like to take. Teachers will be asking students next week to sign up for Regents exams. Please be aware that if a student signs up to take a Regents exam but decides that they do not want to sit for the exam they may opt out. We would like to have Regents rosters established by Friday May 28th. Please have discussions with your students concerning the taking of Regents exams.
As a reminder:
Students enrolled in any of the courses that are offering Regents exams are not required to take the exam. Regents exams can only be offered in person. There are no remote options for Regents exams. All students enrolled in classes that will culminate in a Regents exam will automatically receive an “EX” designation on their transcript. If a student chooses to
take one of the offered Regents exams, they may do so. Their scores will also automatically be recorded as “EX” but students may choose to have the “EX” replaced by their actual score. If a student decides that he/she wants the numeric score on their transcript, parents will have the opportunity to fill out a form in the coming weeks.
