CHS In-person Learning April 19, 2021

(April 16, 2021)

Greetings CHS Families,

As we continue to work with our neighboring school districts and the Columbia County Department of Health to interpret
the NYS guidelines, it has become clear that we are unable to make the social distancing transition from six feet to three
feet at this time. We will continue to monitor the situation daily and changes will be communicated to our families.
Given the fact we are unable to make this transition, we have difficult decisions to make in terms of who will attend
classes in-person Quarter 4 and when. Report cards for Quarter 3 will be available on April 23rd and this information will
have an impact on who we call in for daily in-person instruction.

For these reasons I have made the decision to accommodate the students who have requested to return to in-person
instruction for Quarter 4. These students will begin on a Hybrid schedule. All other students will continue to attend
school as they have been during Quarter 3. All students who wish to remain on remote instruction will do so for the 4th
Quarter. Monday, April 19th will be a B-day with the last names M-Z set for in-person attendance. You will find a copy
of the April schedule included at the end of this letter.

It is likely we will be adjusting attendance plans once the report cards are available. Our goal will be to continue to
accommodate as many students who wish to come to school for in-person instruction in a safe manner under the
guidelines set forth by the NYS Department of Health.

Please keep an eye out for emails regarding the many events and activities that are tentatively planned for the end of the
school year. We are receiving updated safety guidance daily and we are working to make plans and decisions for all of
these activities. A communication will be coming next week that will outline our procedures for Regents exams, class
finals, and attendance during the final week of school.

As always, I appreciate your patience and understanding during this pandemic. I realize how difficult this has been for
everyone. Please don’t hesitate to call or email with your questions and concerns.

Wishing you all an enjoyable weekend.

Go Panthers,

John T. Thorsen
High School Principal
