Chatham Athletes and Families,
In anticipation of Columbia County reaching a seven-day-rolling average positivity rate of 4%, we would like to make sure athletes who plan on trying out for a high school team this winter are signed up on Family ID ASAP. Pending the approval of the Columbia County Department of Health (DOH) and the Chatham Board of Education, our Winter Season will offer Varsity and JV Girls/Boys Basketball, Varsity Cheer, and Varsity Boys Volleyball. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer modified sports this season due to a lack of officials and practice opportunities, the league’s focus on the high school level, and limited time.
The DOH requires that the County’s COVID-19 seven-day-rolling average positivity rate be at or below 4% for high-risk sports to take place. As of today, February 8, the County’s seven-day-rolling average has dropped to 4.3%, so we could be at the 4% mark in the near future.
Once we reach the required seven-day-rolling average of 4% or below, we plan to start the next day, so please be prepared as things are moving fast. For example: If we find out on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. that we are cleared to start, the first day of tryouts will be on Thursday.
How will I know when tryouts are?
Once we hit the 4% threshold, a notice stating the time and place of tryouts along with procedures that have to take place will be emailed out and posted on the District’s website and Facebook page. Coaches will also reach out to those who have registered on Family ID.
In addition, open gyms have been cleared to start here in Chatham. After February break, Fall Season 2 and Spring Season coaches will be able to have open gyms (protocols to be enforced). Coaches will reach out regarding those open gym opportunities.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me via email at email@example.com.
Thanks and Go Panthers!
