Chatham Middle School’s National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) continues to meet regularly online! During these meetings, the students have been hearing from inspiring young people who are Chatham grads and former NJHS members themselves.
At their most recent meeting, the students heard from Sadie Kratt (CHS Class of 2016). She encouraged them to pursue a career based on what they love to do. Sadie is a graduate of SUNY Buffalo and is pursuing a master’s degree in geoscience and urban planning. She said here interest in the subject started in middle school when she did an experiment on rust in water during science class. Sadie inspired the students to stay involved in clubs, drama, and sports, and reminded them that hard work can often pay off with scholarships. In her spare time, she is working on her goal of climbing all the peaks in NYS.
Sadie said the service ethic she applied in middle school is still part of her today; at her college she started a network to collect unused food and bring it to local pantries. She stayed on to listen to our NJHS students discuss all the great services they are doing, such as writing letters to senior citizens, storytelling to young children, and starting a website for reading books.
Last month, the students enjoyed a similar meet and greet with CCSD Board of Education member Destiny Hallenbeck (CHS Class of 2018).
