Reopening Letter to Grade 1-5 Families

(September 4, 2020)

Dear first-fifth grade families,

Thank you for all your patience and support last school year, and this summer as we navigate this uncharted territory. We are very excited to work with your children, both in person and remotely.

We are just putting the finishing touches on our reopening. Please expect your child’s teacher to reach out to you next week to welcome you to his or her class. We will also be providing you with specific information regarding the two weeks of remote learning, the week of transition, and the first in person day for those who are attending daily. Remote learners will also be receiving communication from their teacher. Expect this communication to come sometime next week. Please check your parent portal for information regarding your child’s teacher.

Thank you to those of you who have made arrangements to pick up Chromebooks. If you still are in need of one, please call the office to make arrangements to get one. If your child is attending in-school learning starting on 10/5, he or she will need a device 9/14-10/2 for the remote learning portion of September.

If you are using district transportation, you should have received communication by now regarding bus stops and times. If you have not, please call transportation (518-392-1520). Included in the communication next week will be information regarding new drop off and pick up procedures and times for those parents who are providing their own transportation. Times for pick up will be staggered according to grade level.

It is very important that all in person students have the health survey filled out every morning. This will come to you in the form of an email each day. Please make sure you fill it out and submit it for each child before they board the bus or arrive at school.

The MED staff will be sending home several videos that your child will need to watch before attending in person learning. These videos will address social distancing, wearing masks, handwashing, moving around the building and other changes to our school environment.

Our keyword this year is going to be “flexibility.” We know we will need to be prepared to make changes, sometimes on a moment’s notice. Please rest assured that your child’s safety will always come first.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding this year, as always.
