Reopening Letter to Kindergarten Families

(September 4, 2020)

Dear kindergarten families,

Thank you for all your patience and support this summer as we navigate this uncharted territory. We are very excited to work with your children, both in person and remotely.

Thank you to those of you who have made arrangements to pick up Chromebooks. If you still are in need of one, please call the office to make arrangements to get one. If your child is a remote learner, please expect a communication to come out next week regarding remote learning and remote screening times.    Every kindergartener has the ability to log into their Chromebook. Next week you will be receiving your child’s username and password.

We are just putting the finishing touches on our reopening. All in-person learners have been assigned a screening day. That day will be a full day for your child. We suggest that you have your child arrive that day in the mode of transportation they will take for the remainder of the year. In other worlds, if your child will be a busser, we highly recommend he or she come in and go home on the bus. Parents will not be attending that day. On the days your child is not screening, there will be videos and activities provided by the teachers that your child should watch prior to their first day on 9/17. By Wednesday evening you will be receiving an email indicating who is your child’s teacher.

If you are using district transportation, you should have received communication by now regarding bus stops and times. If you have not, please call transportation (518-392-1520). Next week we will have information regarding drop off and pick up procedures and times for those parents who are providing their own transportation. Times for pick up will be staggered according to grade level. Please look for that correspondence in an email from the kindergarten team.

It is very important that all in person students have the health survey filled out every morning. This will come to you in the form of an email each day. Please make sure you fill it out and submit it each morning for each child.

The MED staff will be sending home several videos that your child will need to watch before attending in person learning. These videos will address social distancing, wearing masks, handwashing, moving around the building and other changes to our school environment.

Our keyword this year is going to be “flexibility.” We know we will need to be prepared to make changes, sometimes on a moment’s notice. Please rest assured that your child’s safety will always come first.   Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding this year, as always.
