State Issues Guidance on Reopening

(July 15, 2020)

Dear Chatham CSD Families,

Again this week, I would like to provide our community with an update on the progress of our reopening plan that is now due to the New York State Education Department on July 31, 2020. This past Monday, the picture became a slight bit clearer as the Governor, the Board of Regents for the State Education Department and the Department of Health all issued guidance regarding the reopening of schools. We are now interpreting the guidance and engaging stakeholders to better shape our plan. As we have previously stated, our plan will include provisions for three different reopening scenarios (in-person instruction, remote learning, or a hybrid in-person/remote learning). The Governor also outlined the metrics he will use to make a decision during the first week of August on how schools will reopen.

There is still a great deal of work that needs to be accomplished in the next two weeks before we can finalize a reopening plan that ensures the safety of our students and staff while providing an educational program that our students deserve. One way you can assist us this week is to take a short survey. We value your input, and to the best extent possible, want to consider your feedback during our planning. Please click on the link below to participate in a brief survey that includes questions about transportation, communications, health and safety, and academics. Please complete this survey by 5 PM on Monday, July 20, 2020.
