Update on School Reopening Planning

(July 9, 2020)

Dear Chatham CSD Families,

We would like to provide our community with an update on schools reopening in September. While, to date, we have not received guidance on reopening from the state, Governor Cuomo indicated yesterday that this guidance will be released to schools the week of July 13. Individual school district reopening plans will be due to the state by July 31 for review and the Governor will make a decision during the first week of August on how schools will reopen.

Here in Chatham, our District has been planning for different reopening scenarios (in-person instruction, remote learning, or a hybrid in-person/remote learning model) and additional resources such as personal protective equipment, cleaning supplies, thermometers and other health and safety needs. Please know that our priority will continue to be the health and safety of all students and staff, and supporting our students and families during this time of crisis. We ask for your continued patience as we await guidance from the state and work through this process. In the coming weeks, we will be engaging the school community for feedback to inform our plan. As you can imagine, we have a lot of work to finalize a reopening plan that ensures the safety of our students and staff. We will keep you updated as the picture becomes clearer.

Stay safe and healthy,

Dr. Sal DeAngelo
Superintendent of Schools
