(May 1, 2020)
I am sure that many of you have already heard that the Governor has closed our school buildings in NYS for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. While I understand the decision, it is an announcement I have been dreading since the beginning of this health crisis. I cannot tell you how badly I feel for the class of 2020. You have already missed out on so much and now we learn that we will not be coming back together. I realize there is nothing anyone can say that will replace what has been and what will be lost.
In the next week we will be outlining our academic plans for the remainder of the school year. Please know that we will do our very best to recognize and celebrate our seniors. We have begun these efforts and soon you will see some of these ideas being executed in the community. We will be cancelling the Arbor Day Banquet scheduled for May 28th , but we will look to maintain some of the important traditions we have done in the past. I know that graduation is a major concern for you and your families. I have already received communications from people suggesting alternative ideas and we will be considering all of our options. We hope to receive further guidance in the coming days on social distancing which will help us identify a plan that will work for us. We will work hard to honor you all in a respectful and honorable way which you and your families deserve.
Seniors, I speak for all of us at CHS when I say we are all heartbroken for you and thinking of you during this difficult time. I wish there was something more we could do for you. I hope you can feel the love and support of your school and community. We are with you and we support you always. All of my best to you and your families.
