Letter from Principal Burns

(April 13, 2020)

Hello CMS Families and Students,

As we move into the fourth marking period I want to again reach out and let you know there isn’t a day that goes by that I am not thinking of all of you. Again, self-care is extremely important during these times. I have attached a link from The Child Mind Institute in regards to “Self-Care in the Time of Coronavirus.” I know it’s always sometimes easier said than done, but it is important to find ways to prioritize your own well-being.

I have had the pleasure to speak with many of you these past few weeks and listen to your concerns and questions. I want to reassure everyone that our students are our number one priority. If you or your child begin to stress, take a break. If you are up late battling with your child over an assignment, turn it off. It is much easier to email your child’s teacher about an assignment than to stress and argue!

When you receive your child’s third marking period report card you will see either a “C” for completed assigned work or an “I” incomplete. These metrics were determined based on how your child was doing prior to classes being suspended. If your child receives an “I” they have until April 30th to hand in work that their teacher has requested. As the fourth-marking period begins I want to reiterate that the work that is assigned is mandatory, but reasonable. Please reach out to your child’s teachers if they are having issues completing assignments. As more guidance from the NYS Education Department, Governor Cuomo and our Superintendent come forth I will reach out to all of you.

Thank you and have a great week!

Sincerely,

Mr. Burns
Principal
