School Closure Extended Through April 29, June Regents Canceled

(April 6 2020) (Updated April 9 to reflect correction in tentative return date)

Dear Chatham CSD families,

Today, Governor Cuomo announced that all school districts in New York State will remain closed through at least April 29, as part of his extension of the statewide PAUSE to help protect the public against the spread of the COVID-19 virus. To clarify the Governor’s directive, this means that students are tentatively scheduled to return to school on Thursday, April 30, however this may need to be pushed back further if circumstances require. Our schools have a formalized distance learning program in place that will allow us to continue instruction for the duration of the extended school closure.

Also today, the NYS Board of Regents announced it has canceled the June, 2020 Regents Examinations in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. I know this brings forth many questions as to how this may affect the school year and graduation requirements for our high school students. We expect to receive further clarification and guidance from the NYS Education Department in the near future, and will provide you with an update as soon as we learn more.

Sincerely,

Dr. Sal DeAngleo
Superintendent
