The National Merit Scholarship Corporation has notified Chatham High School senior Heather Damia that she has advanced to Finalist standing in the 2020 National Merit® Scholarship Program. This honor recognizes Heather for the exceptional academic promise she demonstrated with an outstanding performance on her Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), as well as her exemplary academic record, leadership roles, honors and awards, and participation in school and community activities. Heather’s accolades include being an AP Scholar with Honors, an honor-roll student, and a NYS All-state soprano. She is president of her school’s Tri-M Music Honor Society and Fall Festival of Shakespeare club, and treasurer of National Honor Society. Along with being active in school and community theatre programs, she volunteers as a peer tutor.
We first told you about Heather when she was named a Merit Scholarship Semifinalist in November. Now, out of over 1.5 million students who took the PSAT/NMSQT in 2018, Heather is one of a select group of 15,000 Finalists representing the highest scorers from each state. She is also another step closer to winning one of some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships. Merit Scholarship recipients will be selected on the basis of their skills, accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. Winners will be announced this spring. Congratulations Heather and good luck!
