CMS held its second school-wide Unity Day on Monday, November 25. A surprise event for students, the day focused on service.
In 6th grade, students took a trip to Kindergarten classrooms at MED to make crafts and read with their kindergarten buddies.
In 7th grade, students made apple pies to go into Thanksgiving baskets the school was putting together for families in need. Special thanks to Golden Harvest Orchard in Valatie for donating the apples they used. Students also wrote thank-you notes to faculty and staff.
8th graders choose children’s books to read with 2nd graders who came over to CMS to spend time with their 8th grade friends. After reading together, they designed an activity or craft related to the book.
Throughout the school, each homeroom also decorated and organized Thanksgiving baskets, comprising of nonperishable food items collected by the students, that will go to local families in need this holiday. The baskets included everything needed to make a Thanksgiving feast, with gift certificates for turkey donated by Rock Solid Church in Hudson. Gathering, decorating, and gifting these baskets is an annual CMS tradition.
