MED Music Room Reopened

October 29, 2019

Dear MED Parent/Guardian,

I wanted to let you know that we have completed remediation of the vermiculite found in the Elementary School’s music room and have reopened the room for use.

Earlier this month, I wrote to inform you that we had closed the music room due to the discovery of loose vermiculite in the room. While air quality sampling tested negative for asbestos, NYS Department of Health guidelines call for all vermiculite to be treated as an asbestos-containing material. As a safety precaution, the room was sealed off while we took steps to remediate the vermiculite and clean the room. This past weekend, a licensed environmental contractor completed the remediation, and additional air quality sampling conducted by an independent environmental site assessment company confirmed the space was safe to reopen. Again, we appreciate your patience and understanding as we addressed the matter – the safety of our students and staff is our priority.

As always, if you have any questions feel free to contact my office.

Sincerely,

Sal DeAngelo
