Congratulations to Chatham varsity baseball coach Scott Steltz, who chalked up his 300th career win Thursday evening, leading the Panthers to an 11-3 victory over the Catskill Cats and solidifying Chatham as the front runner for the Patroon Conference.
“We’ve got a great team of young men who are focused on working together and doing things the right way, and that leads to wins,” Steltz said.
The Panther’s 2019 record currently stands at 12-2.
“What I enjoy most about coaching is trying to get better every day. I enjoy the in-game and the day-to-day process of improving, and I’m proud of my group in how they represent themselves and the school community,” Steltz added.
Steltz, who is in his 20th season as head varsity coach, wasn’t looking to make a big deal of his 300 milestone, but certain things have a habit of catching up with you (like this article, for instance).
“I’ve probably had 100 of my former players contact me since last night’s game,” he said. “Reading all those texts was heartwarming and helped me realize you have a bigger impact than you might think, and that’s more important than any win.”
