Grim Reaper Day

Tuesday was Grim Reaper Day at CHS. Throughout the day, students heard a gong over the loudspeaker symbolizing that someone had died in an alcohol related accident. The gong sounded every 53 minutes (statistically, someone dies from an alcohol related motor vehicle crash every 53 minutes) and a student dressed as the Grim Reaper appeared in a classroom to “end someone’s life.” The Grim Reaper then took the person out of class, painted a teardrop on his or her face, and gave the victim a t-shirt and “death certificate.” The eight selected students were asked not to speak for the rest of the day. The dramatization, sponsored by CHS SADD, is designed to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving, especially with prom and graduation season only a short time away.
