Dear CCSD families,
I am pleased to inform you that we have completed remediation of the vermiculite found in the Mary E. Dardess Elementary School gymnasium office and have reopened the gym for all uses.
In March, I wrote to inform you of the gym’s closure due to the discovery of loose vermiculite in the gym office. While air quality sampling tested negative for asbestos, NYS Department of Health guidelines call for all vermiculite to be treated as an asbestos-containing material and, as a precaution, the MED gym remained closed while we took steps to remediate the vermiculite. This past weekend, a licensed environmental contractor completed the remediation, and additional air quality sampling in the gym conducted by an independent environmental site assessment company confirmed the space was safe to reopen. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we addressed this issue.
As always, if you have any questions please contact my office.
