School Success Strategies

During this month’s Guidance Circle (counselor Jackie Hoffman meets with students once a month about social/emotional or academic topics) 6th grade students discussed school success strategies. They filled out evening time management charts to see how much time they devote to TV, video games, homework, reading, chores, extracurricular activities, etc., and to determine if they are striking a healthy balance. They talked about how middle schoolers need 9 and 1/4 hours of sleep each night and that eating breakfast is an important start to a successful day at school. They also discussed tips like packing one’s book bag in the evening rather than the morning, using study guides to prepare for tests, and using homeroom time to organize their lockers.
