Students Read Winning Essays at Elks’ Flag Day Ceremony

As a class assignment, 7th grade English teacher Mrs. Debye-Saxinger tasked her students with writing about “Why Our Veterans Are America‘s Heroes,” part of an essay writing contest sponsored by the Kinderhook Lodge of Elks. Congratulations to Anna Miles, Samantha Hoffman, and Isabella Spencer, whose essays the Elks chose as winners based on their originality, development of theme, mechanics and neatness. The three girls each won $30.00 and had the honor of reading their award-winning essays at the Kinderhook Elks’ annual Flag Day Ceremony held on Sunday, June 10th.
