Letter from BOE to Voters

The Chatham Board of Education would like to thank our District voters for their continued support of our school system. Over 800 voters cast ballots at our Annual Budget Meeting Tuesday. We are a very fortunate Board to have so many engaged and supportive District voters whose participation assists us in ensuring we are meeting the needs and desires of our students and community.

Proposition 1 (Budget) passed with 70% approval, Proposition 2 (Capital Project) passed with 72% approval and Proposition 3 (Security Cameras) failed by a 12% margin (56 votes). As a Board, we felt it important to present the prospect of security cameras as an individual proposition as to allow voters to weigh in on the line item specifically. We greatly appreciate the opportunity to have brought it before the voters in our District and are grateful to all of you who turned out to vote your preference on it.

We would also like to thank Sarah Mellin and Tom Luzzi for their service to the Board for the past nine months. They were wonderful additions to our Board dynamic and we appreciate them stepping into the vacant seats left by resignations. We are happy to announce that Sarah will continue to serve our District as a community member on the Policy Committee.

Congratulations to incumbents Denise Barry, Dave O’Connor and Beth Hover for their re-election to 3-year terms. And last, but not least, we congratulate and welcome Pat Wilson (2-year term) and Graham Button (1-year term) to our Board. We look forward to working with our new members and continuing our efficient and effective dynamic that has gained so much momentum this year.
