The Utica National Insurance Group has given Chatham Central School District its highest award for safety excellence, presenting Chatham with its 2018 “School Safety Excellence Award” at the Titanium with Honors level. During Utica National’s 38th annual school safety seminar held in Saratoga Springs this March, Chatham CSD accepted a certificate commemorating the District’s safety efforts and a $500 award for use in furthering our efforts.
Chatham is one of 152 school districts and Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) in New York State to receive the insurance group’s “School Safety Excellence Award” in 2018. The award has three levels – gold, platinum, and titanium – in which schools can earn a meritorious distinction by meeting specific criteria to enhance overall school safety. Chatham has earned the Titanium level award each year since 2013 and earned the platinum level award in 2012.
“Safety and health concerns continue to be a priority in our school districts,” explained Brian Saville, Resident Senior Vice President in Utica National’s Educational Institutions Unit. “Districts that go above and beyond to provide a safe, healthy and focused culture for learning are to be applauded, and we are pleased to count Chatham Central School District among them.”
Utica National insures more than 300 school districts in upstate New York through its insurance program for educational institutions. Participation in Utica National’s School Safety Excellence Award Program helps Chatham CSD enhance its overall safety in seventeen categories, including transportation, bullying prevention programs, fire safety, playground safety, and other areas. School districts that receive recognition through this program have demonstrated and documented how various safety issues are addressed or would be addressed should an emergency arise.
