Chatham Middle School’s National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) served up more than just turkey at their annual Holiday Senior Luncheon – for the 62 guests who visited the Middle School on December 15 to spend time with our students, there was music, conversation, and holiday fun to boot. First, NJHS students escorted their guests to the auditorium for a lively holiday concert performed by the Grade Seven & Eight Band, Grade Seven & Eight Chorus, and Sixth Grade Orchestra. Following the tunes, they headed to the gymnasium where the students served up a turkey feast and some holiday fun, which included a visit from Santa (eighth grader Elliot Bailey) and a game of bingo with prizes the students had purchased and wrapped for the seniors to win (delivered by Santa, of course).
The NJHS Senior Luncheon is an award-winning service program now in its twenty-fourth year at the Middle School. Students in NJHS are responsible for planning and carrying out all aspects of the event, from designing the decorations, to raising funds to pay for the gifts and dinner, to making visits to senior centers to personally invite their guests. NJHS consists of 56 students in grades seven and eighth and is advised by school counselor Jackie Hoffman.
