Fire Safety Day

October 13 was Fire Safety Day at MED – a student favorite! Firefighters from the Chatham, East Chatham, Ghent, Spencertown, and Tri-Village fire companies brought their trucks and fire-fighting gear to school for the students to see. They made assistant principal Rick Sutton an honorary firefighter by dressing him up in the protective clothing they wear when on the job. Of course, they also talked with the students about what they should do if there is ever a fire at home – don’t hide, get outside!

Because our volunteer firefighters are there for everyone in their communities, every day, principal Kristen Reno presented them with their own Chatham E2 shirts to wear with pride.

After the morning assemblies MED held a fire drill and then the firefighters went classroom to classroom to talk about fire safety. Our younger students even got a visit from Sparky the Fire Safety Dog!
