The Chatham Board of Education has appointed Sarah Mellin and Tom Luzzi to fill two open seats on the Board. Both Mellin and Luzzi were sworn in at the Board’s September 26th meeting. Their appointments fill the unexpired terms of Melony Spock and Dawn-Marie Blasl, who resigned from the Board in July.
Ms. Mellin is a Village of Chatham resident and a Chatham Central School District parent. She is the Shelter Manager at Animal Kind in Hudson as well as a closing assistant for the Hawthorne Valley Farm Store. “The importance of education was instilled on me from an early age, as a parent and community member my goal is for all our children to have the resources to better themselves and our community,” Mellin said about serving on the Board.
Mr. Luzzi also lives in the Village of Chatham and has served as a community volunteer on the Chatham Board of
Education’s Finance Committee since 2016. In addition, he is President of the Board of Directors for the Twin Counties Recovery Services and also serves on the Board for Berkshire Farm. “I’m retired and have been working with kids all my career, now it’s time for me to give back,” said Luzzi. “I believe that if you want to make your community a better place, you need to get involved.”
In August, the Board advertised for volunteers to fill the two open seats and selected Mellin and Luzzi from the applications they received. The appointments are for eight-month terms that run from now until May 15, 2018, at which time both seats will be filled by the annual Board election.
