Students and visitors alike can get a little inspiration from the new rock garden located near the front entrance to Mary E. Dardess Elementary School. The colorful display is part of an initiative by the MED PTA to focus attention on kindness and positive connections, inspired by the thekindnessrocksproject.com. During the last days of school before summer break, the PTA asked all MED students to participate by painting small rocks with bright colors and special words of encouragement.
Callander’s Nursery & Landscaping donated enough rocks for every student to choose one to paint. After the students had painted their designs, PTA volunteers weatherproofed the rocks with a glaze before “planting” them in the rock garden.
When school starts in the fall, M ED students will be able to take a rock with them as needed and then either return it, exchange it for another rock, or create a new rock to add to the garden. With all the students participating, MED now has lots of kindness rocks, so you may see some popping up in other areas around school as well. When we share acts of kindness, we color our world!
