This July, Chatham Middle School welcomed Michael Burns as the school’s new principal. Previously, Mr. Burns was the assistant principal at the Mary E. Dardess Elementary School, and he is thrilled to be making the move to our Middle School alongside a great group of 6th grade students that he had the pleasure of working with this past year as 5th graders.
“When I saw this opportunity to further my role as an educator and stay here in Chatham, I leapt at the chance,” Burns said. “I love the Middle School building and I want to add to the positive relationships that exist here between our students, staff, and community. I also want to build upon our school’s connections with all the great things our region has to offer, particularly the growing opportunities in S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) that exist right in our backyard.”
Previous to serving as assistant principal at MED, Burns was a teacher at Voorheesville Elementary School and at Central Park Middle School in Schenectady.
The Board of Education appointed Burns to the Middle School principal position in April of this year, effective July 1st. He replaces outgoing principal Amy Potter, who retired June 30th after spending 23 years with Chatham Central Schools as an administrator and teacher.
