Congratulations to Chatham senior Katharine Schassler on her amazing three-peat success in the Capital District Engineers Week (E-Week) logo design competition. Katharine’s design was chosen as the competition’s 2017 winner, making her their winner for the third year in a row! She receives a $500 cash award and her design will become the official E-Week logo for 2018.
“Putting ideas into motion, turning the gears, moving forward, that is the idea I had,” Katharine said about her submission for this year.
Her design and those of other contestants were on display during E-Week, held this February in Albany. This multi-day convention promotes the engineering profession, and event attendees could vote for their favorite logo. A short time after the convention, Katharine learned hers was the crowd favorite, again!
Katharine first began attending E-Week as a sophomore while taking Principles of Engineering, a class CHS technology teacher Shawn Caldwell brings to E-Week each year to participate in the Model Bridge Building Competition. As a student looking to pursue civil engineering and architecture in college, Katharine found herself heading back to the event each year since.
“It’s a cool place to be because you get to see people who work in the field,” she said.
Not to mention all the free pens.
Having won last year, a logo Katharine designed currently adorns this year’s E-Week website and promotional materials, as did her design for the year before that. With her most recent victory, we can look forward to seeing Katharine’s work as the symbol of E-Week next year as well!
