MED Students Ride 'Wave of Exercise'

Students in Grades 1 through 4 at Mary E. Dardess Elementary School participated in a coast-to-coast exercise event known as Exercise US Oct. 1. Between 1:30 and 1:45, the students walked two laps around the high school track. It was called the "wave of exercise" because schools from the East Coast to the West Coast signed up for 15-minute slots from 8 a.m. EST to 3 p.m. PST. The event is a response to the dramatic rise in childhood obesity. Many sources predict this will be first generation of children whose life expectancy could be lower than their parents'. The national program, which was deemed a 'huge success' by the organizers, will take place again next year, again on the first Thursday of October.
