Chatham Students, Staff Collect Supplies for Greene County Schools in Need
To help out Greene County schools damaged by flooding caused by Hurricane Irene, Chatham Central School District held a District-wide
collection of school supplies. Throughout September, students and staff at Chatham’s High school, Middle School and Mary E. Dardess Elementary School collected donations of pens, pencils, notepads, crayons, glue, and other everyday school and office supplies to replace those washed away by flood waters.
On September 23rd, the supplies were boxed up delivered to the Windham-Ashland-Jewett Central School District, located in one of the hardest-hit areas in Greene County. Windham school officials expressed their extreme gratitude for the donation of badly needed supplies; their school lost nearly everything in the floods and students were only able to return to class on September 26th.
Chatham’s school supplies drive was organized by High School social worker Tracy Kelly and art teacher Patrice Tomaso. Community member Carl Quinn volunteered his time and vehicle to deliver the supplies to Windham. Chatham CSD would like to thank all those who contributed to the drive and made it a success.
