Painting the Hudson River
In October, Mrs. Tomaso’s Drawing and Painting Class took a field trip to the Henry Hudson Riverfront Park in Hudson to draw the breathtaking views of the Hudson River. Their drawings and photographs will be used as inspiration and prep work to enable these art students to create an oil painting in class.
Before the trip students studied the work of some of the “heavy hitters” of the Hudson River Valley School of Art; specifically Thomas Cole and Frederick Church. The class also looked at the work of Thomas Locker, a contemporary painter known for his scenes of the Hudson Valley.
The weather cooperated and the students put in a day of hard work on the riverfront, creating many studies for their paintings. Shown is a completed hudson river painting by Cody Baffuto.
