2012 Commencement
In front of a packed house of relatives and friends, ninety-one worthy graduates walked across the stage to receive their diplomas. Chatham’s Class of 2012 boasts thirty-four seniors who graduated with four-year honors. Twenty-four Regents diplomas with advanced designation, eleven Regents diplomas with advanced designation with honors and two regents diplomas with honors were awarded, as well as forty-eight regents diplomas and six local diplomas. Eighty-three percent of Chatham's class of 2012 plan to pursue higher education. The commencement ceremony was held the evening of June 22 in the High School auditorium.










Class of 2012 Valedictorian
Philip Thomas Curran, son of Frank and Carol Curran of Chatham Center, NY, has been named Valedictorian of Chatham High School’s Class of 2012. Philip is the Vice-President of the National Honor Society and was awarded the Gellert Cornell Admissions Invitation, as well as other local scholarships and Highest Average awards in several subjects. Philip has been a member of the Chatham Varsity and JV Soccer teams. He was involved in Model UN and Model Congress in the past year, and was also Student Council Vice-President. He has participated in numerous activities with the Community Service Club, including the First and Second Annual St. Baldrick’s events and doing post-flood cleanup in Esperance, NY. Outside of his school achievements, Philip has had photographs displayed at the Exposure Photography Exhibit at Millstreet Loft, in Poughkeepsie, and he enjoys making ceramics using the potter’s wheel. Philip will be attending Cornell University and is leaning towards a major in the field of Political Science.
Class of 2012 Salutatorian
Cole Gleason, son of Sam and Mary Gleason of Chatham, has been named Salutatorian of Chatham High School’s Class of 2012. Cole is the president and founder of Chatham High School’s Community Service Club and the president of the National Honor Society. He is the recipient of the Alice and Murray Giddings Foundation Scholarship, Sean Patrick French Memorial Scholarship, Meghan Kraham Memorial Scholarship, Martin Tuczinski Community Leadership Award, Northern Columbia County Rotary Club “Service Above Self Award,” Operation Unite Community Service Award, Donald and Henry Wood Memorial Athletic Award, William P. Pratt Memorial Award, and the Chatham Central High School Class of 1965 Scholarship. Cole has been a member of the varsity baseball team since the 8th grade and was recently awarded the Capitol Region Sports Foundation Scholar Athlete Award. Cole will be attending the State University of New York at Geneseo this fall.
